Shnongpdeng / Dawki
Shnongpdeng is appox 90 km from Shillong and approx 8 km from Dawki. Located right beside the crystal clear Umngot River. A very popular destination among a majority of the population of Meghalaya. The Umngot River flows into Bangladesh and this river also servers as a border between India and Bangladesh.
Sohra
Once called the wettest place on earth, previously known as Cherrapunjee, Sohra was established as a Sub-Division in the East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya in 1982.
The word “Cherrapunji” means ‘land of oranges’. Despite perennial rainfall, Cherrapunji faces an acute water shortage and the inhabitants often have to trek for miles to obtain potable water.
